There is only one flavor in the world that competes with my love of chocolate and that is pumpkin. Sometimes I simply must marry the two. Pumpkin is in the squash family so as long as the flesh of the plant is orange, any squash will do. For this recipe, I used acorn squash. You can make pudding or you can add a little more almond milk and crushed ice and turn it into a smoothie. Top it with some cacao nibs or a beautiful sliver of dark chocolate and you’ve got. . . Chocolate for Breakfast. Ingredients 2 cups pumpkin or acorn squash, cooked, peeled and cooled 1/3 cup cashews, soaked overnight in filtered water 1 or more bananas (sliced and frozen) 1/2 to…

Pear & Almond Chocolate Cake with Cider Glaze
Some people begin their day with the newspaper. Others flip through their favorite magazines while sipping a cup of hot steamy cocoa. (I know, you’re drinking coffee but this is a chocolate blog, okay?) Me? I go blog hopping. I love to see what people are cooking up and how they’re presenting their food to the world. When I found Honey & Jam, I was mesmerized. Everything about this blog is stunning—the recipes, the photography, the presentation. I even love the way Hannah managed to find the perfect typeface to offset the rustic feel in her photography. And then, there was the cake. Pear and Almond Chocolate Cake with Cider Glaze. I have been dreaming about that cake, longing for an afternoon where I can…

Sprinkle and Sip
This has been a CRAZY BUSY week. I love being a multi-passionate entrepreneur and all the variety that splashes into my life. But, I know I’m getting a little too busy when I’m spending more time at my computer than in my kitchen. Yesterday I decided to play with my chocolate for breakfast smoothie. I think I shocked a few of my fans when I posted this photo on my fan page. But seriously? It’s a delicious way to go green. If you’re new to my chocolate for breakfast world, I’m a self-professed chocolate aficionado. I find a way to incorporate chocolate into my diet almost every day. Okay, every day. But who’s counting? Today I added a different twist to my signature smoothie because…

Chocolate for Breakfast Smoothie
As most of you know, chocolate is filled with Vitamin P (pleasure), and for that reason alone I indulge in some form of chocolate almost every day. Okay, every day—but who’s counting? For some reason this smoothies always seems to work its way into my breakfast on Fridays. Banana Coconut Dark Chocolate Buckwheat Cookies
That’s quite a mouthful, I know. But when I came across this blog, I knew I had to share it with you because in addition to the beautiful, gluten-free cookies on Food Loves Writing, there are many more recipes made with wholesome ingredients, described in the language of a food writer. Plus, Shanalee takes you on vacation with her, introducing you to the restaurants she enjoys along the way. My husband and I have a running debate. He likes to check restaurant reviews on the bigger sites like Fodors or Yelp. I say, “I don’t know that person. How do we know we have the same tastes? He may be looking for “value” defined by an all-you-can-eat buffet, while I’m looking for a chef who…

Madeleines au Chocolat
I love facebook. Yes, I spend entirely too much time looking at recipes, anecdotes, lessons and links when I should be working on more important things like figuring out how to use Pâte à Tartiner (cocoa hazelnut spread with olive oil) or writing a book about how I lost five pounds eating copious amounts of chocolate every day. But no, I fall into the rabbit hole several times a day to see what my facebook friends are up to. Where else can you learn a new language by reading your favorite food posts? Where else does someone recognize your love of chocolate and send you a photo with beautiful dark chocolate leaning into a creamy, dreamy green smoothie? So, in honor of Bastille Day, I’d…
